Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra, sometimes referred to as “yogic sleep” or "non sleep deep rest", is a form of guided meditation. It is a sacred practice in which the practitioner is guided on a journey inwards through various stages of deep relaxation. In this place, we are suspended between states of waking and sleeping, or a ‘hypnogogic’ state. It in this place we are deeply connected to the whole of ourselves; our bodies and psyches, including our subconscious. We are also given the opportunity to cultivate deep healing, awareness and a connection to our own inner wisdom and guidance.

Yoga Nidra has many wonderful benefits including increasing relaxation, managing stress and anxiety, and improving quality of sleep. Research has demonstrated that Yoga Nidra can help resolve symptoms of PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), aid in insomnia and enhance neuroplasticity in the brain (i.e. the brains ability to adapt and learn).

Sarah offers free Yoga Nidra practices, alongside other meditations, through her Youtube Channel "Blooming Lotus Counselling" and Insight Timer the app.

I respectfully acknowledge that I live and work on the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig Anishinaabeg. This land, now known as Peterborough/Nogojiwanong, is covered by Treaty 20 and the Williams Treaties.

As a therapist supporting healing and reconnection, I recognize that colonialism, past and present, has caused deep harm—particularly through the suppression of Indigenous ways of knowing, community, and relationship to the land. I acknowledge my responsibility to continue learning, listening, and supporting Indigenous-led healing and self-determination.

This acknowledgment is a small part of an ongoing commitment to understanding how histories of trauma impact individuals, families, and communities—and to honoring resilience, wisdom, and justice.
